The 12th activity

Because evolution is achieved primarily through communication, our team has established a debate with the mayor and with the pensioners, during which we discussed various issues, concerning both the activity of the team, as well as the shortcomings of older persons.

Influential personalities at the local level have came, sharing their personal experiences and discuss about everything that bothers us resulting in a very usefull conversation from which we all had something to learn

The 11th activity

30th of August 2012

The volunteer team was in the audience of the mayor for an interview with him. On this occasion, we had strengthened the relations between the team and the leadership of the city. Taking this opportunity, we tried to identificate the problems encountered by the elderly. We discussed future projects on this segment, where we want to get involved and the Mayor gave us all of his support.

The 10th activity

Now, we are at the Asylum of elders of St. Maria in Şişeşti. This activity was a real emotional shot for us because although the material comfort, we felt  the sadness which was flying through the air. We had a lot of conversations with the elders and in all of their words we saw the loneliness which was in their soul..we saw them crying from inside. It was probably the point where we really made the connection which we were looking for..when we understood and felt a bit of the pain that they, the elders feel daily. 

The 9th activity

After we presented the case of Elvira, who no longer had the affection of the family and close relatives, in our next activity four of the members of our team held an extremely interesting discussion with two war veterans: Mr Botezatu-91 years old and Mr Drăgotescu-97 years old. In comparison with the previous case, the elderly have some attention, appreciation and love from their family. Originally from the village of Ploştina, Mr. Drăgotescu and Mr.Botezatu stated that in their youth, this village was very populated and that there is a deep connection between all the inhabitants. Through extensive discussions like this one, between representatives of the young-old generations, the two sides realized that they have things in common and that they can help each other.

The 8th activity

 15th of August 2012

The project team "Fireflies" initiated the greening activity at the home of Mrs. teacher Elvira. She said she really needed some help from our side because, due to old age and the problems with the sight it is very hard to clean the entire household.

We mobilized quickly and on 15th of August, we grabbed the job. Those 6 volunteers present at the activity  have worked together and so they managed to change the dark atmosphere which was in the House and in the yard of Mrs. Elvira.

The 7th activity

5th of August 2012

On the 5th of August our team members met at the Orthodox Cathedral of the city of Motru, to get in touch with older men and to present the theme of our project.During the activity we've all been very excited, even elderly people were enthusiastic to offer us their advice, and share experiences.We also spoke with the priest, which was very happy to hear about this project and told us that he would be glad to help us.

The 6th activity

17th of July 2012

 
In July, our team has organized a excursion together with the elderly in a very beautiful tourist places of the area: the Tismana Monastery, Tismana trout, Henti Glogoveanu. During this trip, there happened a lot of fun things, we played football and we shared life experience with eachother.
